He\u2019s the former editor of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tnr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The New Republic<\/a> and the author of five books. He was one of the first prominent journalists to start his own personal blog and is considered a pioneer in weblog journalism.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tm.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/225px-Andrew_Sullivan_cropped.jpg\" rel=\"shadowbox[sbpost-1476];player=img;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1481\" title=\"225px-Andrew_Sullivan_cropped\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tm.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/225px-Andrew_Sullivan_cropped.jpg\" alt=\"Andrew_Sullivan\" width=\"225\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a recent blog for The Atlantic titled, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com\/the_daily_dish\/2010\/04\/catholicism-and-transcendental-meditation.html#more\" target=\"_blank\">Catholicism and Transcendental Meditation<\/a>,\u201d Mr. Sullivan discussed the importance of his practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique and its relevance to a practicing Roman Catholic. In the blog he mentions that what motivated him to bring up the subject was a video interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tm.org\/blog\/people\/christianity-and-transcendental-meditation-father-dubi-interview\/\">Father Len Dubi<\/a> that was recently posted here on the TM Blog.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote:<br \/>\nOver the last year or so, I&#8217;ve been trained in and have been practicing transcendental meditation. I don&#8217;t consider this in any way a contradiction of my faith in Christ; in fact, I think it has helped me pray more deeply and helped me get closer to the &#8220;being with God&#8221; that prayer is really all about. And that&#8217;s why the video above is so encouraging to me; it suggests I am not alone in this; and I am still enough of a Catholic to find a priest&#8217;s endorsement of this approach to be reassuring.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/images\/magazine\/bios\/bio_wolcott.jpg\" alt=\"james-wolcott\" width=\"220\" height=\"286\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The day after Mr. Sullivan\u2019s blog appeared, James Wolcott, who writes for Vanity Fair, posted a blog titled, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/online\/wolcott\/2010\/04\/welcome-my-brother.html\" target=\"_blank\">Welcome, My Brother.<\/a>\u201d Mr. Wolcott is a regular contributor to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The New Yorker<\/a>, and is the cultural critic for Vanity Fair.
