For some companies it already has."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The December 7th Huffington Post article, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/joel-brokaw\/meditation-the-new-corpor_b_793510.html\">Meditation: The New Corporate Benefit that Pays Huge Dividends<\/a>\u201d talks about the benefits a Washington, DC consulting firm found from making the Transcendental Meditation technique part of its benefit package.<\/p>\n<p>Executive Management Associates CEO, Nancy Slomowitz implemented the new benefit for her employees because she felt rising stress had been exacting a heavy toll on the quality of life in the workplace. The resulting change in her business has been so pronounced that she decided to document it on film. It\u2019s entitled: The Meditation Makeover: Beads and Incense Not Required.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gsfweb.org\/tm_finalcut.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3158\" title=\"meditation-makeover\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tm.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/meditation-makeover.jpg\" alt=\"meditation-makeover\" width=\"570\" height=\"499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/usa.tm.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/meditation-makeover.jpg 570w, https:\/\/usa.tm.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/meditation-makeover-300x262.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The film is a portrait of Slomowitz and her employees\u2014 highly driven Type A personalities who seem to be unlikely candidates for meditation.<\/p>\n<p>Huffington Post writer Joel Brokaw reports that the employees twice daily, twenty-minute TM practice soon produced tangible results, both in their professional and personal lives. The workplace environment soon grew from toxic to harmonious among many other positive changes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3170\" title=\"business-person\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tm.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/business-person1.jpg\" alt=\"business-person\" width=\"205\" height=\"242\" \/>\u201cPeople noticed how their energy was renewed from their daily practice,&#8221; explains Nancy. &#8220;They had a greater capacity to handle more things and multitask. Their prior inability to deal with the stress had resulted in co-workers getting too emotional and snapping at each other. Turnover became a problem and our reputation began to suffer. Now, everyone gets along well, employee retention and satisfaction improved drastically, and our clients and associates look at us and can tell that we are a team.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stress.org\">American Institute of Stress<\/a> estimates that each year in the United States, $300 billion (or $7,500 per employee) is spent on stress-related compensation claims, reduced productivity, absenteeism, health insurance costs, direct medical expenses and employee turnover.<\/p>\n<p>The British government\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/press\/2004\/c04046.htm\">Health and Safety Commission<\/a> calculates that in England work-related stress is the biggest occupational cause of working days lost through injury or ill-health. With an average of 29 days lost per case, just this one negative effect of stress in the workplace is estimated to cost Britain almost 4 billion pounds sterling per year.<\/p>\n<p>Rick Gault, Executive Management Associates\u2019 executive vice president summed it up by saying, \u201cThere\u2019s an alarming growth rate of stress in business today. Business people desperately need a way to avoid having stress impede their effectiveness. I think that people increasingly need a tool like TM to keep their business going and growing.
