{"id":5298,"date":"2011-10-31T12:04:40","date_gmt":"2011-10-31T16:04:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tm.org\/blog\/?p=5298"},"modified":"2014-01-27T16:57:17","modified_gmt":"2014-01-27T21:57:17","slug":"buddhist-monks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usa.tm.org\/blog\/meditation\/buddhist-monks\/","title":{"rendered":"Thousands of Buddhist Monks in Asia Learn Transcendental Meditation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tm.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Buddhist-monks-group-picture2.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Buddhist-monks-group-picture2\" width=\"160\" height=\"163\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5375\" \/>More than 3,000 Buddhist monks in 100 monasteries throughout Southeast Asia have learned the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tm.org\/meditation-techniques?leadsource=CRM421\">Transcendental Meditation technique<\/a>, as a result of the work by a revered <a href=\"http:\/\/afe.easia.columbia.edu\/japan\/japanworkbook\/religion\/jbuddhis.html\">Japanese Buddhist<\/a> monk, Reverend Koji Oshima, who is a longtime TM practitioner and certified TM teacher. <\/p>\n<p>According to Rev. Oshima, the Buddhist monks appreciate the simplicity, effortlessness, and profound experience of transcendence, which is gained almost immediately after starting the TM practice. Rev. Oshima adds that transcendence provides the natural basis for the monk\u2019s subsequent prayers and practices. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tm.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Buddhist-monks-group-meditation-500px.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Buddhist-monks-group-meditation\" width=\"510\" height=\"383\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/usa.tm.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Buddhist-monks-group-meditation-500px.jpg 510w, https:\/\/usa.tm.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Buddhist-monks-group-meditation-500px-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>During <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tm.org\/blog\/category\/maharishi\/\">Maharishi\u2019s<\/a> many tours of Asian countries, he often visited monasteries and spoke personally to many Buddhist leaders.
