The gala raised funds for the David Lynch Foundation special initiatives to provide the Transcendental Meditation technique to veterans with PTSD<\/a>, at-risk students, and abused women and girls. <\/p>\n

The tribute to Shapiro, 80, a beloved figure in the entertainment industry and a 30-year TM meditator, featured stand-up routines by Russell Brand<\/a>, Sarah Silverman<\/a>, and Garry Shandling<\/a> with surprise appearances by Jerry Seinfeld<\/a> (George has been Seinfeld’s manager for over 30 years) and longtime friend Jay Leno<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The David Lynch Foundation was established in 2005 to fund the implementation of the Transcendental Meditation program for populations suffering from extreme stress. The Foundation also funds university and medical school research to assess the effects of the program on academic performance, ADHD and other learning disorders, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, cardiovascular disease, post-traumatic stress disorder, and diabetes. <\/p>\n
